This was one of three drainage ditches which cross the fairways at Shipley Golf Club that we were contracted to rebuild over a period of time. They are in effect Ha-Has with just one side of the ditch being faced with dry stone retaining wall.
The stone from the old collapsed walls was removed and the ditches mechanically cleaned out. Following this, five men worked both in the ditch and above – three building the wall and two feeding the stone from the reclaimed pile on the ditch side. This way the job was completed in a short space of time resulting in minimal disruption to the hole being worked on. Finally, the structure was capped off with new Yorkshire stone irregular flags and the ground reinstated by the Greens Staff from the golf club.
